Under certain circumstances it can happen that Ashampoo Snap does not behave as expected (e.g. the editor does not start) or error messages (e.g. JavaScript) are displayed. Below we describe possible causes and solutions.
- Ashampoo Snap supports the operating systems Windows 10 (64bit) and Windows 11. The software is not compatible with the operating systems Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10 (32bit).
- Snap requires the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable updates. It is necessary to install both of the following updates on your system:
https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe
https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
More information about the updates can be found here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170 - It can happen that Snap is blocked by security software or the Windows integrated Defender.
- For example, if you protect your personal folders from access by applications, the Ashampoo Snap application will not be allowed to access the pictures or documents folder. The software may not start, you may receive error messages or Defender may issue warnings.
You can disable this protection or allow individual applications. Microsoft describes the procedure here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/allow-an-app-to-access-controlled-folders-b5b6627a-b008-2ca2-7931-7e51e912b034
Therefore, grant access to the following program:
C:\Program files\Ashampoo\Ashampoo Snap 16\snap16.exe
C:\Program files\Ashampoo\Ashampoo Snap 365\snap16.exe - If you use security software from other vendors, you should also check the settings directly there and possibly allow Snap 16 explicitly. Many manufacturers have options in their security solutions to declare programs as trusted. Ashampoo Snap is located in the following installation directory:
C:\Program files\Ashampoo\Ashampoo Snap 16\
or
C:\Program files\Ashampoo\Ashampoo Snap 365\
- If you are using Avast AntiVirus or Avast Security, you need to add Snap to the "list of allowed apps". The manufacturer describes the procedure here.
https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/Use-Antivirus-blocked-allowed-apps/ - Kaspersky calls this "Trusted Applications mode":
https://support.kaspersky.com/15175 - Norton is offering following description:
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v3672136
- If you are using Avast AntiVirus or Avast Security, you need to add Snap to the "list of allowed apps". The manufacturer describes the procedure here.
- Under certain circumstances, an antivirus program may detect the file SnapToolsWPF.exe. This manifests itself by Snap starting normally, but failing to capture a screenshot. You should find a corresponding entry in the log files of your antivirus solution and allow the file accordingly. It is a false positive by your AV solution.
Alternatively, you can also add the file to the exception list. You can find the file in the following directory:
C:\Users\Your Windows Username\AppData\Roaming\Ashampoo Snap 16\helpers
or
C:\Users\Your Windows Username\AppData\Roaming\Ashampoo Snap 365\helpers
- For example, if you protect your personal folders from access by applications, the Ashampoo Snap application will not be allowed to access the pictures or documents folder. The software may not start, you may receive error messages or Defender may issue warnings.
