Introduction
Purpose of the Program:When you need to adjust the names of multiple files, Ashampoo File Renamer helps you change and standardize filenames in one go.
Example Applications:
- Rename 50 photos from "DSC-001.jpg", "DSC-002.jpg", etc., to "Vacation-Paris-001.jpg", "Vacation-Paris-002.jpg".
- In a document collection, change part of the name so that "Invoice-Customer-2025.docx", "Offer-Customer-2025.pdf" becomes "Invoice-Meyer-2025.docx", "Offer-Meyer-2025.pdf".
Program Interface Overview
1. File Input Area
Add files here via drag & drop or by selecting them in the program.
2. Replace
Text field for searching words or text sections to be changed.
If left empty, everything will be changed.
3. Text Form
Three options to change the text formatting:
- Aa = Upper and lower case
- AA = ALL CAPS
- aa = all lowercase
* Here, you can "puzzle together" the new filename.
5. Blocks
Drag & drop these text blocks into the "New Text" field to change the filename.

6. Undo
* Undo the last change (renaming).
7. Rename
* Button to apply the renaming to the selected files.
8. File View Table
- Checkbox = Select which files to rename.
- Old Name = Original filename.
- New Name = Future filename.
- File Path = Location where the file is stored.
- Actions: + 🗑️ = Remove from the list.
+ ⬇️ = Move down in the list.
9. Settings
* For changing language, color, etc.
Text Blocks in Detail
Old NameThe complete original filename.
Free Text Field
Inserts the characters entered here.
Iteration Number
A sequential number based on the file's position in the view list.
Date
The date of the last file modification.
File Creation Date
The date when the file was created.
First XX Characters
The first XX characters of the original filename.
Last XX Characters
The last XX characters of the original filename.
Step-by-Step File Renaming
1. Add FilesAdd all files to the program via the field in the top left corner.
2. Change All or Part?
Enter the part of the filename you want to change as the search term.
If you want to change the entire name, leave the search term blank.
3. Set Changes
Use the text blocks to assemble the new text.
4. Check Result
In the second column of the table, you can check the expected result; changes are highlighted here.
5. Rename
Trigger the renaming using the "RENAME" button.
6. Undo
After renaming, you can revise it using the undo button if needed.

Forbidden CharactersThese characters are not allowed in filenames under Windows: \ / : * ? " <> |<>
Parentheses
To enclose something in parentheses, the element to be enclosed must be surrounded by two free text fields with the corresponding parentheses.
