Introduction
Booting your PC from the rescue system requires a USB drive created through Ashampoo Backup Pro and a backup on an external drive, e.g. a hard disk.
1. Start from USB drive
To boot your machine from a USB drive, interrupt the default boot processes by pressing F12 (or F2, F8 or Esc, depending on your device) to open the BIOS settings. Then, use the cursor keys to select "USB Storage Device". Make sure no other USB device apart from the rescue system drive is plugged in. Press Enter to begin booting from the USB drive.
2. Select Restore
After the recovery system has started, the program Ashampoo Backup Pro will automatically open. Select "Restore" here.
3. Where are the recovery data located?
In this example, the backup data is located on an external hard drive and not in a cloud. We will select this option now.
4. Check drive mapping
Here, you check and, if necessary, adjust whether the drive letters currently assigned by Windows to your drives are correct. We are still in the recovery system, and the assignment may differ from your usual settings. Then, click "Next" (Point 2).
5. Selecting an External USB Hard Drive
Please ensure that the USB hard drive is connected. If necessary, connect the hard drive and click the "Refresh" button. This will update the list of backup drives, and the hard drive should then be listed there. Select it (Point 1) and then click "Next" (Point 2).
6. Which backup do you want to restore?
Select the correct backup here where the entire "C" drive has been backed up. In our example, it was "Backup-LW-C" (Point 1). Then click "Next" (Point 2).
7. What would you like to restore?
Select "Disks, entire disks including boot information" (Option 1) here.
8. Assign Backup
This is where the assignment of the backup to be restored to the hard drive on the computer takes place. To do this, select the backup content from the left side and drag it with the mouse to the "C" drive, where the restoration of the backed-up data is to occur (Point 1). After successful assignment, it will be marked with a small blue arrow. Then click "Restore" (Point 2).
9. The Restoration
The duration of the restoration process depends on the volume of data to be restored. The progress bar indicates how far the restoration has progressed.
10. Restoration Completed
With this final message, the data backup has been successfully restored. Please close all windows, remove the USB stick, and restart your computer. The restart should proceed in the usual manner without any errors.
Here, we explain how you can create a system backup, including a recovery system, on a USB stick.
