Introduction
Booting your PC from the rescue system requires a USB drive created through Ashampoo Backup Pro and a backup on an external drive, e.g. a hard disk.
1. Start from USB drive
To boot your machine from a USB drive, interrupt the default boot processes by pressing F12 (or F2, F8 or Esc, depending on your device) to open the BIOS settings. Then, use the cursor keys to select "USB Storage Device". Make sure no other USB device apart from the rescue system drive is plugged in. Press Enter to begin booting from the USB drive.
2. Select backup storage type
At the launch of the rescue system, you'll be prompted to select the storage type that holds your backup. Select "Local drive or network drive" (1). Then, click "Next" (2).
3. Select external USB hard disk
Make sure the drive is connected. If not, connect it and click "Refresh" to update the drive list (1). Then, click "Next" (2).
4. Select backup
From the list of available backups, select the one that contains your "C" drive. In our example, it's "SystemBackup-2018" (1). Then, click "Next" (2).
5. Restore hard disks
Select "Complete hard disks" (1) and click "Next" (2).
6. Assign backup
This dialog allows you to assign backups to each of your drives. Simply the a backup on the left and drag it onto the target drive "C" on the right (1). The blue arrow represents the assignment. Then, click "Next" (2).
7. Confirmation prompt
Confirm your selection by clicking "Yes" to begin replacing all data on "C" with data from the selected backup.
8. Restoration process
Depending on the number of files, restoration can take some time. The progress bar provides visual feedback during the process.
9. Restoration successful
Upon completion, close all windows, unplug the USB drive and restart your PC.
Your PC should now boot normally again.
